This is a post out of the norm. (The above picture is in reference to #6 below.) I usually do not accept awards; this will probably be the first and last. But I'm making an exception today. It's the "most wonderful time of the year," and my wonderful friend, Nita from Mod Vintage Life passed this on to me. Nita is just as sweet and sparkly as her blog. Her style is uniquely beautiful. She's also very humorous and transparent. Thanks for the mention, Nita. Coming from you, it's a huge honor. Miss Nita's blog will be the first on the B List ( a list of blogs noticed by Beatrice Banks.)
(See what I mean about her style?)
Directions: Share 8 things about myself. Sorry it's lengthy but it's over 40 years worth of learning.1. You are never too old to start over. Let's see, I've lost count how many times now. Let's just say, I'm the queen of starting over. We are currently in the biggest starting over process ever with hubby in med school. The joke is, I will probably be in the nursing home by the time we settle down. Doc says he will make sure I get in a nice one. (He's younger than me.) Isn't that sweet?
Maybe I'll be as spunky as Maxine.
2. You can have a baby after 40. Not recommended for the body (gravity and pregnancy are the ugly step sisters,) but for happiness, it's great. Yes, it's a chore to keep up with a little one but when you're old and your mind is mushy, it really doesn't matter. They can read for you when your eyes start failing. They can run to the mailbox and back before you make it to the front door. And they can rub your back when it hurts. Life is all good. Kids make it fun.
3. It's the journey not the destination. This is how I keep my sanity and still enjoy life. We do not put all our eggs in one basket. If we blink, we'll miss the here and now. If something happened to one of us, then the destination may never come. Today. Live in it. Love in it.
4. There is such a thing as happily ever after. Thank God for His grace and 2nd chances. I have absolutely the best husband in the world. I have the 3 greatest kids ever. So grateful.
5. Romance is not fancy dinners, gifts, trips or flowers. (If doc's reading- But go ahead with your plans, babe.) It's the laundry being folded, bringing home my favorite candy bar, a wink or a compliment. It's a certain look or an "I can't imagine my life without you." This morning doc stopped long enough to send me this love song via email. I'll take that any day over flowers.

(can you believe I had this post ready and he calls to say, "part of our Christmas gift to each other is going to be a little trip for just the two of us." Scratch what I said about trips. I'm a full blown romantic and can't help myself.)
6. It pays to make your house a home. No matter where you are or what your circumstances, life is richer just by making the most of what you have. That's the anatomy of my blog. And if you can't generate the beauty yourself, go look at other people's stuff. It's ok to live vicariously through others as long as you don't obsess and become unhappy with your own stuff. One of the best things about blogging: slobbering over pretty stuff.
Case in point- see my last post.
7. You can never have too many friends. Never dreamed I would actually make friends, like... good friends, like... best friends, through blogging. What a beautiful place to be. It's scary when you're the new kid on the playground. Have you ever felt like, what if no one likes me, what if no one picks me? Every time I gain a new follower/friend, it makes me feel accepted. Maybe that sounds silly but this is my little playground and it would be awfully lonely by myself.
My deepest heartfelt thanks to each of you who bring your toys aka ideas and come play with me. You all are some of the sweetest, most creative and talented people I've ever met.
8. I owe my whole existence to Jesus Christ. This should have been first on the list, but since it's the most important, I'd like to leave it as the lasting impression. Thank you Lord for your love and grace.
I am now supposed to pass this on to 8 people. Well, Merry Christmas. It's yours for the taking.
